Jackson "bing-ed" my name and this video was one of the first things that came up. Our wedding photographer had posted this as their operning video on their website. How nice of them- we didn't even know about it. They've been getting rich off our ugly mugs and we haven't seen a dime.

Surgery and Spare Time

Rosie just completed the surgery on her shoulder and is on her way to a speedy recovery. She is finally adapting to the pain medication and seems to be much more comfortable than she has been for the last 24 hours.
For those of you who don't know Rosie had a tear where her bicep connects to her shoulder. It was either from Softball or from the time she had to save a man on the roof of an exploding building by hanging from the bottom part of the helicopter and then grabbing the man's hand and carrying him away to safety. Anyhow, to fix it the doctors cut the tendon a little shorter and reattached it to the bone in her arm.
Since I figured she would have some time to sit around with nothing to do I bought her some photo editing software. Enjoy!

Jack Renouf's Entourage

How do you summarize a two week trip to Europe in one blog? We started in Rome and from there went to Venice, Lucerne, Paris, London, and ended up in the Isle of Guernsey. Each country is a favorite. The cities are amazing as their antiquity blends with the present. We were Jack's entourage as he made it possible for all his children and their spouses to make this trip. It was a such memorable experience and a once in a lifetime opportunity to spend time with all the family- a million thanks to them!

This is the infamous Trevi Fountain that really does have magical powers. You throw three coins over your sholder and you are granted three wishes. All three of mine so far have come true. The first one is that you will return to Rome, the second is that you will have a good marriage and the third is whatever you want. We had no idea that we would be returning to Rome so soon. Shortly after leaving for Venice we realized we had left our passports back in Rome. The first thing Jackson said as we were getting on the train to go back was, "Stupid Trevi Fountain!"

This was the branch that we went to when we landed in Guernsey. They were the nicest, most gracious people. Alex is a friend of Jackson's parents through the Nauvoo Pageant who comes from Guernsey. She introduced us to her family and the local branch.
This was also the first place that I had someone come up and ask me, "Are those real?" After an akward second, it turns out she was talking about my teeth. Thanks mom and dad for braces!

Our trip ended with a surprise invitation for an interview with the BBC radio station. It seems like the big traveling group trying to track down their ancenstry didn't go unnoticed in Guernsey. It was pretty exciting!

Again I want to thank Jack and Barbara for their graciousness and generosity. This was a rare chance for all of us and we are happy that we got to be a part of it. It will always be regarded as one of the highlights of our lives.

Lessons learned...

I was so close to having a clean driving record- only two more years to go- except that I decided to go to work today and that I was going to hate work today and then I didn't look where I was driving and crashed into a car and now it's going on my driving record, and I have to pay my insurance deductible, plus a ticket and go without a car for a couple of days while it gets repaired. Jackson said I should post a picture of my car, but it's too painful. After what a good car it has been to me- never giving me any trouble and this is how I repay it. Moral of the story-change your attitude about work and watch where you are going.

On a lighter note, thanks to Jackson we went to our first ward activity: trunk-or-treating. It only took us a year. I don't know if they will get my support next year...although we did get a lot of comments on our costumes- Jackson went as a Utah fan and I went as a BYU fan.... again, Jackson's idea. Go Utes!

I love Holidays but quite frankly Halloween and I just don't seem to be getting along like we used. It is reasonable to think that I miss my totally awesome 3rd grade homemade trasnformer costume. You might think that I miss the cakewalks. You might think that I miss walking around La Cima with my pillow case filling it up with cheap candy. Maybe I do miss the haunted houses my siblings and I would make in our attic and the front yard cook-off my parents would host on Halloween night.

The honest truth is that I don't like Halloween anymore because the candy flow has been reversed. It used to be that the candy came in on Halloween and sometime around President's day I would finish off that last piece of candy corn. Now Rosie buys the candy weeks before the big day so that it can sit on our shelf and stare me in the face taunting me. It is my candy but I don't get to eat it. And on Halloween I have to stay at home and hand out my candy when I know that I should be out there bumming candy of my neighbors instead of giving it to their kids.

At least the pre-Halloween activities are still fun.

I See Dead People... and Animals

On Saturday I went with my friend Trish to see the Body Worlds 3 Display. It is an exhibit with real human bodies that have been preserved through a special method, plastination, invented by Dr. Gunther von Hagen in 1977. It had all the different organs and different systems and even diseased organs. There were organs that had a stroke, deformities, or cancer, and even broken bones. The body displays were a little more "artistic" than what I thought- there was a body holding it's organs or a body with the brains on top of it's head. They even had a plastination of a camel and it's offspring- it was huge!!

It was fascinating seeing all the complexities of the body and made me appreciate how everything works together. I wanted to put up some pictures, but not everybody would appreciate that as much as I would so I settled for the blood vessel configuation of a rooster.

Let it Snow, Let it Snow!

The first snowfall of the season.

I love fall, summer and spring, but I especially love winter and there is nothing better than waking up to big, fat snowflakes falling down. This year it seemed to happen a little earlier than most, Sunday to be exact, but I loved it all the same.

I can't wait to start listening to the Christmas music that I have to now call Holiday music because, much to Jackson's chagrin, we listen to it all winter long.

How does a girl from Mexico love snow? Hard to believe, but it did snow in Mexico. It would quickly melt, but school would be cancelled for that day and all the kids would spend the entire day playing in the snow with socks on their hands and plastic bags on their shoes. I remember my mom had some real snow boots that she wanted me to wear, but they looked funny and nobody else had snow boots and I didn't want to stand out... so much that I cried until she let me go play in my plastic bags.

Snow also makes me think of one of my childhood favorite songs:

How times have changed....

Sometimes it seems like we were just married last month and other times it feels like we are an old married couple. Through it all, we've learned more about each other and whatever we do, we're better together.

To celebrate our anniversary, Jackson and I spent the weekend up at Snowbird during Oktober Fest. Not that we planned to go up there specifically for that reason, but it was fun to eat some brats and people watch.

The canyons are amazing this time of year with bright fall colors and crisp air... and Snowbird was no exception- except that it was a little bit more crispier than we thought. It rained off and on and was cold all Saturday. Sunday was beautiful all day long. I finally got to see Jackson's competitive side after continually beating him on the Alpine slides. At last, we were ready to go home and get some rest.

The whole trip was a lot of fun and is sure to become an annual Renouf family tradition.

And not to forget Krystal... my dearest friend that will now forever share her birthday on our anniversary. Happy Birthday, Bestest Buddy!

Goodbye Summer

To celebrate Labor Day Jackson and I went bow hunting.... not really. But we did practise shooting a bow and arrow and we did catch a fish. We camped by some friends that go hunting every year. I've never seen anything like it. The trailers, the crowds, the parties and the deer hanging up in the tree. It was quite a site. And not to metion cold. This was the weekend we said goodbye to summer.

Like mom said- sometimes there is nothing to write about so you write about somebody else. :)

Since Gary and Diana haven't started blogging, I will do it for them. On Thursday they started their big journey to Washington, where Gary starts his new job in September at an accounting firm, Grant Thornton. I stopped by their house a couple of days earlier to wish them well on their trip. Poor guys- it sucks having to move. But through it all, they were able to maintain their bright auras.

Little Karl has really grown. He can lift his head up by himself. The last picture is hilarious.

It was a hard day so don't judge my appearances, but I had to include this picture to show everyone that I held a baby. Karlitos is in awe while being held by "favorite Aunt Rosie."

Jackson didn't get his dream birthday of Big Wheels and scooter races, but he did get balloons and lots of confetti cake, his favorite. He and his friends have committed to building soap box derby racers for his next birthday to race down our street. Maybe next year he will get to wear his cape and ride to glory.

Sunday was cake and ice-cream with the family. His sisters Heidi and Mary Kate and their families helped him celebrate.

Our First Triathlon!

On Saturday, July 26th, Jackson and I completed our first triathlon! We decided to do the Hillman Trithlon (http://www.hillmantriathlon.com/) because it was super cheap and didn't look like there would be too many people. We had a hard time leaving work on Friday so we didn't get there until midnight. The race started at 8AM the next morning, but we needed to be there at 7AM so we didn't have much time to rest up. The day of the race was nerve-racking, but it was comforting to have each other there so there was at least two of us that didn't know what was going on. We didn't really know how to get set up- every one else had towels and wetsuits and other essential items that would have been nice to have. Oh yeah, and road bikes. There was only one other person that had a mountain bike and she had slicks put on. We had a pact to stick together since I was going to drown in the open water and Jackson detested the running part. We did it though- we finished the race! It was a hard race, it's not called the "Hillman" for nothin'. Soon after we finished they started giving out the awards and much to our surprise Jackson got first in his age division and I got second! What an incredible day. We got back in the car and drove back home right afterwards. We loved everybit of it, well almost every bit, and can't wait for the next one!!
