Let it Snow, Let it Snow!

The first snowfall of the season.

I love fall, summer and spring, but I especially love winter and there is nothing better than waking up to big, fat snowflakes falling down. This year it seemed to happen a little earlier than most, Sunday to be exact, but I loved it all the same.

I can't wait to start listening to the Christmas music that I have to now call Holiday music because, much to Jackson's chagrin, we listen to it all winter long.

How does a girl from Mexico love snow? Hard to believe, but it did snow in Mexico. It would quickly melt, but school would be cancelled for that day and all the kids would spend the entire day playing in the snow with socks on their hands and plastic bags on their shoes. I remember my mom had some real snow boots that she wanted me to wear, but they looked funny and nobody else had snow boots and I didn't want to stand out... so much that I cried until she let me go play in my plastic bags.

Snow also makes me think of one of my childhood favorite songs:

Here comes Susie Snowflake,
Look at her coming down.
Tap, tap, taping on your window pane
To tell you she's in town.

Here comes Susie Snowflake
Soon you will hear her say;
Come out everyone and play with me,
I haven't long to stay.

If you want to build a snowman,
I'll help you build one, 1 2 3,
If you want to take a sleigh ride,
Weeee on the rides on me.

Here comes Susie Snowflake,
Look at her tumbling down,
Bringing joy to every girl and boy,
Susie's come to town.

Yay for winter! Yay for Holidays! Yay for snow!!!

Rosie,
I love the story about your snowboots! That is a crack up. I love the little song Suzy Snowflake. It's one of my favorites too. When exactly do you start listening to your winter music? =)

I would have started today, but... :)

Rosie,
I love the snowboots and plastic bag story, too.
I had no idea you love the winter. Jack is a heat meiser, isn't he? He and I could bake in the St. George sun and not mind it or melt one little bit.
I thought the picture you posted was beautiful.
This is a fun way to get to know you. Did you know our Mom loves the song Susie Snowflake? The minute I read you love it, I thought, "just like Mom."

I love winter too during the holidays but get very sick of it after January. Maybe I would love it more if I took up snowboarding again, like another girl I know, but for now I'll have to settle for sledding with my kids.
I loved your story of plastic bagged shoes and socks on your hands! So funny! Great post Rosie!

I love Christmas music too. My official start time is September. I'm glad you're happy about the snow. Convenient! I wish it would snow a little more down our way.

Hmm, I just learned what happens when you delete a comment.
We really did have to scrounge around to find enough snow to build a snowman. Good times!
That's cool that Babs likes the Suzie snowflake song... some people don't think it's a real song, but we used to sing it all the time.

This is totally off of topic, but why is the the U logo so much bigger than BYU?

Come on Jack, keep your woman in check :)

Adam, Jackson can't help it if the U is better and therefore has a bigger logo.

Strange, we hadn't even remembered that it was time for winter to come until Elena wrote that Lane's hands and feet were little blocks of ice.

Christmas stuff in Mérida went up in the stores after the 16th of September. People start laying away their kids' toys and clothes then and pay a little each payday (every week or two weeks. At one store I noticed they are asking for official identification when making the lay away. Viva México!

I understand Rosie's love for Christmas music. That was one of the first things I packed, even before the mission call came.
Guess what I have already bought--a round Christmas tablecloth and a miniature manger scene with a shepherd boy playing the flute and extra animals: a cat, a rabbit and a chicken!
